Rain Rain Go Away - Chapter 1

Chapter 1

It rained again today.

Not sure if someone up there can see inside me but it feels as if i'm being laughed at by someone somewhere; as if someone's watching me. But i know that's not true because i know everyone around here by now, its been five years since i was moved here by my parents. Everyone is really nice to me here, i remember my 6th birthday was the first one i had here, everyone threw me a surprise party at the local shinto shrine. I didn't even know what a party was till then. I mean i knew it was when people gathered but i didn't know it was meant to be fun! Anyway yeah it's raining again, makes me feel kind of numb inside just watching it streak across the window panes.

Then something wailed, shattering the silence.

Moving quickly i pressed my ear to my ground floor apartments front door, all was silent until the wailing started again. It sounded almost inhuman amongst the monsoon, but something made me open the catch on the door to peer out. Pushing the door out as far as it would go i tried hard to focus my eyes down the grey stone path, but i couldn't focus past the edge of the wood roofed porch area...the rain stopped me from seeing anything. I thought of going inside again, that my mind was just playing with me, until the wailing started once more. I leapt to my feet and stood in the rain, glancing around for the source of the noise and once finding it i ran as fast as i could to end of the stone stairways at the end of the path. Bundling the soft parcel into my arms i raced back inside, resting the bundle on the small futon i grabbed as many blankets as i could before racing back over. Unwrapping the bundle i stared at the small child within...a baby girl.



'Aria? Aria? Wake up, wake up, wake u...' the voice was interrupted suddenly by my own.

'I'm up, I'm up! Please my heads pounding,' gripping at my pillow i sat up groaning, squinting my eyes in the bright light. It took a long time for my vision to stabilise itself so i could see the small girl with a pink nightie and white stuffed bunny stood smiling at me. 'What time is it?' the question was muffled by the rustle of sheets as i stood on the futon Imbedded in the floor. My bare feet met the cold wood of the surrounding area and i shivered inwardly.

'10 o' clock!' The excited voice pitched even higher and i sighed gently shaking my head, this was going to be an interesting day i could all ready tell that much. My mind recalled the dream i'd had and a wave of nostalgia spread over me...yeah its 7 years today no wonder i remembered so clearly last night. Turning to face the little girl i offered her my right hand which she took with a grin. Walking over to the bathing area we proceeded into our normal routine of washing each others hair and helping to towel each other down afterwards. My hair is short and a dark brown colour so it dries quickly and doesn't cause too many troubles, Mia, the little girl, however has long auburn hair that falls to her waist in gentle waves and curls, a real beauty though i'm sure we'll see that more when she's my age. Wrapping her hair in a towel and placing the poncho towel over her i wrapped my own towel around me and led her into the main area again. Sitting down i began combing and drying her hair, careful not to pull or dry it too much. I love this routine it makes me want to wake up each morning, when Mia came along it's safe to say the rain finally stopped and the sun showed its face.
